Golden Door Spa starts petition to overturn Newland Sierra Project
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – When the board of supervisors approved the Newland Sierra project two weeks ago it set the stage for a battle between the need for housing versus the impact of big development projects- this time in North County.
Immediately thereafter, a lawsuit was threatened- and a signature drive began for a referendum in 2020 to overturn the board’s approval.
The Golden Door Spa is funding the signature drive. KUSI covered their side of the story a week ago. in response, The Golden Door says it will file a lawsuit to challenge the adverse impacts of the project that include noise and air pollution from 10-years of construction, and an inadequate plan to evacuate an added 6000 residents in the event of a wildfire. It also claims the county is going against its own smart growth policies.
The project will put 2100 homes just off Interstate-15 at Deer Springs Road, and according to Golden Door Spa, it will create gridlock on I-15 from Rancho Bernardo to the Riverside County border.
