Golf tournament held to help SD officer in need of kidney

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A golf tournament to raise money for a San Diego police officer in need of a kidney transplant is set to begin Monday.

Funds raised from the tournament will benefit officer Art Calvert, who is on leave as he awaits his transplant. Funds will help pay for Calvert’s medical and living expenses.

Calvert has been with the SDPD for 20 years, most recently being assigned to the San Diego Mayor’s detail. He started as a patrolman but before that was drafted to the New York Yankees. Because of his connections to the MLB, he at times worked as security to high profile players. 

Calvert has been battling Kidney problems since 1990. He received kidney transplant donations from his mother and sister and is now in need of another. 

The tournament at Riverwalk Golf Club is on Fashion Valley Road is expected to get underway at noon Monday. Click here for more information.
