Governor Newsom says Republican Party is headed ‘into the waste bin of history’

SACRAMENTO (KUSI) – In an interview with Politico, Governor Gavin Newsom went on the attack against the Republican party as a whole, and in the state of California.

According to Politico, Newsom compared national Republicans to the GOP in California during the 1990’s saying,  “America in 2019 is California in the 1990s, the xenophobia, the nativism, the fear of ‘the other.’ Scapegoating. Talking down or past people. The hysteria. And so, we’re not going to put up with that. We are going to push back.”

Newsom continued his attack on Republicans when he said Washington Republicans “will go the same direction – into the the waste bin of history, the way Republicans of the ’90s have gone. That’s exactly what will happen to this crop of national Republicans.”

Many believe Newsom’s hit on the Republican party as a whole is an early sign that Newsom will someday want to run for President of the United States.

Newsom concluded his interview by taking shots at President Trump, which supporters say is a strong political strategy for the governor.
