Granite Hills 55, Patrick Henry 28

The Granite Hills Eagles out in East County gave us another show that starred Michael Ladesma and Seth Collins, as the team took the week 12 win over Patrick Henry, sealing themselves a spot in the next round of Division III CIF San Diego Section Playoffs. With a 55-28 loss to Granite, the Patriots did not leave the field without giving it their all, with 2 interceptions and 4 touchdowns throughout the game. Thank you to both teams for giving us an exciting playoff matchup this week.

In the first quarter Riley Reyes of Granite Hills came right out with a 5 yard touchdown, putting the Eagles on the board 7-0. Later in the first, Chase Gandy of Patrick Henry picked off Granite QB Seth Collins for a 20-yard return, but the Patriots would not score on that possession. Granite’s Thomas Youmog runs a 6 yard touchdown, making the score 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter gave us a lot of excitement, as each team would score twice before halftime. Seth Collins found Michael Ladesma for an incredible 30-yard touchdown. But Patrick Henry’s Noah Boek would answer back with a little 2-yard run, finally putting the Patriots on the board; 21-6. But, nothing new to follow, as Seth Collins found Rob Agerbeek for a 48-yard touchdown for the Eagles. The Patriots would not quit and made sure to score again before halftime, as Cruz Samaniego found Dezmon Patmon for a 25 yard touchdown, bringing the score to 28-13 at the half.

In the third quarter, the first play of the Eagles possession saw Seth Collins with a quarterback keeper for a 51-yard touchdown. But with Patrick Henry’s first possession of the second half, they too would drive down the field and score, a 3 yard touchdown run by Zariyan Cook, who had a great running game all night. The next possession however would give us another Collins-Ladesma duet, the outcome a 67-yard touchdown for the Eagles.

The fourth quarter would give us one more Granite Hill’s touchdown, an 8-yard run from Ladesma. And, Patrick Henry would end the game fighting, as Zariyan Cook ran for another touchdown, this one 7-yards. The final score 55-28 Eagles, and Granite Hills moves on to the Quarterfinals of Division III CIF San Diego Section Playoffs. I want to thank both teams for their outstanding performances on the field and for making the first round of playoffs an exciting experience for themselves and the fans.
