Hands Around the Hospital

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Each April, Child Abuse Prevention Month highlights the scope and devastating impact of child abuse across the nation, as well as the many child health and welfare experts, law enforcement agencies, community members and leaders, and families that are banding together to prevent abuse.

In a showing of solidarity, Rady Children’s and its Chadwick Center for Children & Families hosted a “Hands Around the Hospital” event on the morning of April second. Staff and community partners wore blue, the color of Child Abuse Prevention Month, and formed a “human chain” around the Hospital’s iconic Inspiration Fountain, representing the powerful support we pledge to children and families in our community.

The event alsoheld a news conference with Charles Wilson, M.S.S.W., senior director of the Chadwick Center; Kimberly Giardina, M.S.W., acting director of Child Welfare Services for the County of San Diego Health & Human Services Agency; and Suzanne Starling, M.D., medical director and associate center director of the Chadwick Center.
