Hazmat called to mercury spill in Linda Vista

LINDA VISTA – Some people in a Linda Vista neighborhood are being screened for contamination after someone found that mercury has been spilled outside their condominium Friday.

San Diego's Hazardous Materials, or Hazmat team was called-in to investigate They say the spill involves several ounces of mercury that leaked across 30-yards.

A spokesman says it's rare to find mercury near neighborhoods, and it appears someone tried to wash it away.

Crews closed off the area until they can make sure everyone is safe.
