Hillary Clinton expected to announce VP pick later this week

NEW YORK (KUSI) — Hillary Clinton is getting closer to announcing her vice president pick.

According to CNN, Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack are in the lead, but those close to Clinton’s campaign say there are still several contenders.

CNN reports that Clinton has consulted with several people, including President Obama, as she’s been going through this process.

According to the Clinton campaign, Clinton will make her formal announcement in a message to supporters and then in person, with her vice president choice, in Tampa on Friday or Miami on Saturday.

"I don’t expect a decision is made or announced until the weekend between the convention," Kaine said Wednesday during an appearance before the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce. "It’s wonderful to be mentioned. But I love my job and trying not to overly think it."

According to CNN, both Kaine and Vilsack are not allowed to discuss the vetting process and are expected to keep their normal schedules until further notice.
