Water main break in Hillcrest floods streets

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A ruptured water pipe flooded a busy Hillcrest
thoroughfare and adjacent businesses Tuesday afternoon.

The overflow in the 3600 block of Fifth Avenue began about 3 p.m.,
according to San Diego police. Witnesses reported that the roadway was soon
beginning to cave in, creating a sinkhole, SDPD public-affairs Lt. Kevin Mayer
said.

Officers closed a stretch of the street and sections of nearby roads
while utility crews were en route to try to halt the flooding, the lieutenant
said.
