Holiday crime watch
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is warning people to be on the lookout for crime today while enjoying the holiday.
Sheriff Bill Gore announced a program called “Holiday Watch” to bring attention to police efforts to fight holiday crime.
The holiday season “brings out the crooks looking to take advantage of busy and distracted shoppers rushing to find that one gift,” according to the Sheriff's Department.
The sheriff's “Skywatch” will help keep an eye on shopping center parking lots for a fourth year. The rig is similar to a “cherry picker” and outfitted with heat-sensing cameras and a DVD recorder.
The program, starting tomorrow and running through Jan. 3, also includes increased enforcement and public education.
