Holiday DUI arrests on pace to top last year’s totals
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Since Wednesday evening, California Highway Patrol
officers in San Diego County arrested 46 suspected drunken driving suspects,
nine more than during the same period over the Fourth of July holiday last
year.
Law enforcement officers throughout San Diego County said no one was
killed in a vehicle crash in either year's reporting period. Authorities
reported nine fatalities elsewhere in the state this year, the same amount as
last year, according to the CHP.
CHP officers said the maximum-enforcement reporting period will be
longer this year because it will include the weekend.
Statewide, 564 suspected drunken drivers were arrested on freeways and
on roads in unincorporated areas between 6:01 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. today,
compared to 479 suspected DUI arrests last year, according to the CHP.
