Holiday travelers urged to plan ahead to avoid delays

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Travelers planning to fly out of San Diego International Airport over the Thanksgiving holiday were urged Monday to plan ahead to avoid delays.

According to the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, up to 50,000 passengers a day are expected to make their way through the airport during the holiday.

Passengers were advised to arrive at least two hours before departure on domestic flights and three hours for international flights, according to the Airport Authority.

Travelers should also observe the “3-1-1” rule to minimize delays at security checkpoints. Containers of liquids, gels and aerosols carried through security checkpoints should be smaller than three ounces and enclosed in a one- quart, clear, plastic zip-top bag. Passengers are limited to one baggie.

Special lanes have also been set up at security checkpoints for passengers based on their travel needs. “Expert” lanes are for travelers who fly several times a month, “Casual” is for those that are familiar with security procedures and “Family/Special Assistance” is for those traveling with small children, elderly passengers or people who need special assistance.

The airport has also deployed extra staff to help passengers through lines and the security process during the busy Thanksgiving travel period, according to the Airport Authority.
