Homicide detectives investigating mother’s shooting of son

RANCHO SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A 66-year-old East County woman was in custody Monday accused of killing her adult son in a house in Rancho San Diego, a homicide investigator said.

Josephine Mary Ring called 911 shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday and said she had shot her son in the 2200 block of Tina Street, according to San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Dennis Brugos.

Deputies arrived at the home and found 48-year-old Vincent John Bonfiglio lying on the floor, Brugos said, adding that paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Ring was taken into custody, though it was not immediately clear what led to the shooting, according to the lieutenant.
