Victim found dead inside Mountain View residence identified, suspect identified and taken into custody

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — 9:15 p.m. — The San Diego Police Department confirmed Friday night the arrest of 40-year-old Damon Edwards. 

10:00 a.m. — The body of an apparent homicide victim was found in a Mountain View-area residence Friday, authorities said.

The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Mickette Smith, of San Diego. The suspect in this case has been identified as 40-year-old Damon Edwards, of San Diego. He has not yet been located.

At approximately 9:15 a.m., San Diego Police Communications received a request from San Diego Fire Rescue to assist them with a suspicious death at 4405 Mayberry Street. SDFR was dispatched to the address on a medical assist call.

Upon arriving they were directed to an upstairs bedroom where they located the victim. Smith appeared to have suffered some type of trauma to her head and upper torso.

Lt. Todd Griffin of the San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit said two children — both under the age of 10 — were inside the home at the time of the incident, but did not witness the murder.
