Honor Flight San Diego documentary honoring Normandy Jump 2019 and World War II veteran Tom Rice

CORONADO (KUSI) – World War II veteran Tom Rice and filmmaker CJ Machado tell us about Rice’s recent trip to Normandy and Machado’s documentary honoring the trip.

On the 75th anniversary of D-Day, WWII paratrooper Tom Rice jumped into Normandy just like he did in 1944. Tom Rice was part of the Screaming Eagles 101st Airborne Division during the invasion and landed behind enemy lines.

Normandy Jump 2019 and Honor Flight San Diego have partnered together for a screening of the first of three documentaries in the Normandy Jump series. All three documentaries will feature WWII paratrooper Tom Rice and his journey to jump for the 75th anniversary.

The film will play at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 17th and Sunday, August 18th at the Village Theater in Coronado. A moderated panel with the director, producer and Tom Rice will follow the screening.

Proceeds from the event will help Honor Flight San Diego get WWII and Korea War Veterans to Washington, D.C. on their October 2019 flight. There are more than 100 Southern California WWII and Korea War veterans on the waiting list to go on the trip at no cost to them. However due to a shortage of funding, Honor Flight San Diego will not be able to take 80 veterans like they normally do.

Proceeds will also support getting Tom Rice back to Normandy in 2020 so that he can jump with his WWII 101st Airborne brother.
