Hoover 13, Lincoln 10

On Friday night, the Cardinals of Hoover traveled to face the Hornets for Lincoln’s Homecoming Halloween game. The Cardinals came into the game (6-2) on the season and the Hornets were (5-3).

The entire game was a defensive showdown. The only points coming out of the first half was a Demontauz Gray one yard touchdown to put Hoover up 7-0.

Also in the first half, Cardinals’ Shaun Jones intercepted what would have easily been a Lincoln TD late in the first quarter. However this did not amount to any points for Hoover. And following in the second quarter, Hornet Daelynn Dunn recovered a Hoover fumble, yet this did not lead to any points as well.

During halftime, the stands and sidelines were teeming with proud Lincoln alumni and current students celebrating Homecoming and Halloween festivities. The Homecoming court was driven up in supremely tricked out cars; King was named Devon Johnson and the Queen was Brianna Cisneros.

Now in the third quarter, Lincoln finally gets on the board with a FG to bring the score to 7-3. As Hoover goes to punt in the following series, Student Athlete of the Week Johnny Garcia blocks the kick allowing Javon Johnson to pluck the ball out of the air and run it back 36 yards for the TD. Lincoln is in the lead, 10-7.

Early in the fourth quarter, Hoover attempted to tie the game with a field goal. However it was blocked by Lincoln, solidifying their lead.

But unfortunately for the Hornets, Hoover had to spoil their Halloween Homecoming night. With a few minutes left in the game, Cardinals marched down the field ending their series with a Jaquille Bradford 2 yard TD run. Hornets blocked the PAT but the score amounted to 13-10 Hoover, ending the game with a Cardinal win.
