Hoover 69, Francis Parker 28
In the Division III Quarterfinals, it was a great match up between the Hoover Cardinals (1) and the Francis Parker Lancers (9). The well rested Cardinals came out on top in Week 13 and defeated Parker 69-28.
In the first quarter alone there were 5 touchdowns. Hoover was on the board first with a Jaquille Bradford 56 yard touchdown run putting the Cardinals 7 points ahead of the Lancers. However on the following kickoff, Parker’s Christian Sourapas ran it back 94 yards for a Lancer touchdown. Score now tied at 7’s. After some great defense by Hoover, Dominique Whitfield gets himself a 60 yard punt return leading the Cardinals 14-7. A Daevon Bazzo 38 yard touchdown pass to Shaun Jones followed shortly after. Just when you think the Cardinals are done scoring in the first, Hoover’s defense sacks Parker QB Khaleel Jenkins forcing a loose ball and Zyair Velazquez picks it up and goes 25 yards to the end zone. That completed the first quarter 28-7.
In the 2nd quarter, Francis Parker was finding ways to get back in this game. With a successful onside kick, a tricky lateral play appeared as Jenkins passed the ball to Jordan Genmark-Heath who throw a 29 yard touchdown pass to Kevin Rodin. Score was 35-14, Hoover still in the lead. Jenkins put the last score for the Visiting Team as he scrambled his way into the end zone on a 33 yard run.
Both teams fought hard, showed great sportsmanship and played like it was there last. Hoover showed a great team effort as 7 different Cardinals found the end zone, contributing to the win. Hoover advances to the semifinals next week to face Granite Hills (5).
