Horizon 48, Palo Verde (Blythe) 7

The Horizon Panthers exploded for 34 first-quarter points and never looked back, cruising to a 48-7 win over Palo Verde.

The airspace above Balboa Stadium was especially busy. The planes that fly over on their way to Lindbergh Field were joined by an aerial assault launched from the arm of Panther quarterback Josh Gaudet. The senior signal-caller threw for 377 yards, pushing his total over 1000 yards just three games into the young season.

Gaudet contributed to all seven Horizon touchdowns. His four passing scores gives him nine on the year, and he found paydirt three times with his legs.

Horizon received strong two-way efforts all over the field, as the team only dressed 17 players for the contest. Aaron Willis snagged an interception in the second quarter. And on the ensuing possession, the senior capped off the Panther drive with a seven-yard touchdown catch.

Palo Verde made the trek from Blythe in the Imperial Valley. The Yellowjackets face 0-3 Yucca Valley at home in a Week 4 contest that will see one team notch its first win.

Horizon will look to build on its opening win. The Panthers again play host at Balboa Stadium, this time welcoming in 0-2 Army-Navy.
