Hot cocoa becomes first new In-N-Out menu item in over a decade

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — In-N-Out has added a new item to their menu for the first time in 15 years.

The popular California-based burger chain will now serve hot cocoa made with Ghiradelli chocolate with the option of marshmallows. The beverage will also be made with hot water instead of milk.

The last time In-N-Out added a new item to their menu was in the early 2000’s when they added lemonade.

The new edition isn’t technically “new,” instead, hot cocoa is making a return. Hot cocoa was served at In-N-Out in the 1950’s before being discontinued for unknown reasons.

“I’m not sure how it fell off the menu but it’s part of our culture and something special for kids, and I’m happy that we’re bringing it back,” In-N-Out president Lynsi Snyder said. “For a certain generation, hot cocoa is an In-N-Out classic, and we hope it will be a favorite of a new generation. It’s quality cocoa from Ghirardelli and yes, we serve it with marshmallows!”

An 8-ounce cup will cost between $1.60 and $1.80, possibly more, depending on your location.

The Orange County Register also reported that they will serve hot cocoa for free for children under 12 years old on rainy days, however it is uncertain how many chains will offer this to customers.
