Hundreds gather in Balboa Park for inaugural PB&J Classic

On Saturday, April 7st, 2018 (10AM-1PM), in celebration of National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day, teams comprised of culinary devotees representing the ranks of both amateur and professional chefs, will gather in Balboa Park’s historic Recital Hall.

The 1st. Annual PB&J Sandwich-Classic event will feature some of the most creative uses of peanut butter and jelly that ever graced two slices of bread. And, after the last of the peanut butter has been spread, and dollops of jelly top off their culinary creations, we will know the answer to the question: who makes the best peanut butter & jelly sandwich in San Diego?

The idea for the fund raising event came from Retired SDPD officer, turned master jelly maker, Matt Weathersby. In 2016, Weathersby’s Escondido based Jellybear Jelly Company, built the longest peanut butter and jelly sandwich ever made on a military vessel. The unofficial record setting sandwich covered over 300 feet of the flight deck of the USS Midway Museum and served nearly 1,000 visitors.
