Hundreds of volunteers beautify parks, pick up trash and helps families in need
KUSI’s Dave Scott was live at the Sweetwater River Channel for the Rock Church’s Rock Your City clean up event.
This Saturday’s event is just one of 19 Rock Your City events planned for 2018. They are held throughout the year throughout San Diego County. Just two weeks ago, over 200 volunteers gathered at Presidio Park and hauled away 6 dump trucks of trash and painted over graffiti.
It is a great way to get your family and friends together to support our community. The events range from clean-up like the one this coming Saturday to Military appreciation events and Toys for Joy, our annual Christmas event.
The events are open to everyone to volunteer.
Rock Your City was started in 2008. They asked the Mayor how they as a church could help the needs of our community. He gave a list of ways ranging from helping with clean ups at Balboa Park to beautifying fire stations throughout San Diego. We are celebrating 10 years of doing events like these.
To date, the estimated worth of the Rock Your City volunteers’ efforts is $38,199,336.
Each event hundreds of volunteers are mobilized to do everything from beautify parks and pick up trash to helping families in need.
The Rock Church partnered with Living Coast Discovery Center because they’re actively involved in the community doing at least one event per month in the south county of San Diego.
The channel is located under the 54 Freeway and it is the home of many homeless individuals in the South County of San Diego.
The city will benefit by having a clean channel and by preventing all the trash from the channel from being dumped in Imperial Beach.
