Hundreds welcome Chargers back to San Diego, maybe for last time

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The Chargers may have lost Sunday to put an end to a dismal 2015 season, but that didn’t stop fans from giving them a hero’s welcome when team buses rolled into Chargers Park Sunday night.

Hundreds of fans–many donning Save Our Bolts gear–lined the road as four charter buses arrived. Several players expressed appreciation from the buses as the fans cheered after what may have been the Chargers’ final game as San Diego’s team.

The moment was surreal, with fans camping out for hours in the cold as a storm bore down on the county to rally one last time for the only NFL team the town has ever known.

Though the Chargers ended 4-12, much of the 2015 season has been about the future of the team. With a January 13th vote the next–and biggest–step in the long relocation saga, it’s the general consensus that owners will vote to allow the Chargers to move to Los Angeles, though still nothing is certain.

The Chargers are expected to officially apply for relocation Monday.
