19th complaint filed over alleged deputy sex assault

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The number of civil complaints against a San Diego County sheriff’s deputy is now 19, after another woman came forward with sexual-misconduct allegations.

The Union-Tribune reports the 51-year-old woman filed court papers Thursday that allege Deputy Richard Fischer barged into her home and sexually assaulted her in 2016.

Attorneys for Fischer did not immediately respond to telephone and email messages seeking comment.

Fischer has pleaded not guilty to criminal counts including sexual battery and faces trial later this year.

Prosecutors contend that Fischer, a six-year veteran, improperly fondled women ranging in age from their 20s to the late 60s, including some who had been arrested.

San Diego County has so far paid more than $900,000 in settlements involving alleged groping or assault by Fischer. Several other civil cases are pending.
