2 killed, 3 injured in wrong-way collision in Pacifica
PACIFICA, Calif. (AP) — Two people were killed and three were injured in a head-on collision on the main highway through the Northern California town of Pacifica.
The California Highway Patrol said a man drove a Toyota Prius in the wrong direction on State Route 1 around 4 a.m. Saturday.
Officer Bert Diaz said the sedan collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado.
A man riding in the back of the Prius was ejected and killed; a woman riding in the front also died. The driver suffered major injuries and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Diaz said two men in the pickup truck were also hospitalized, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
All lanes of the highway were closed until about 9:30 a.m. so officers could investigate the wreckage.
