3 missing, 10 hurt after boat crashes on 2 Alabama lakes

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Holiday boat crashes left at least three people missing and 10 injured on two different Alabama lakes.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol tells news outlets that searchers including dive teams are trying to find two people who were missing after boats collided on Lake Jordan north of Montgomery on Thursday night.

It’s unclear exactly what happened, but officials say a total of seven people were involved when two boats hit. Capt. Gary Buchanan says five people were hurt, at least one seriously.

Buchanan says crews will resume searching Friday for one person who was missing after another boating accident on Smith Lake north of Birmingham.

Five people were hurt in that accident, but their conditions weren’t immediately known.
