4th dead whale found in San Francisco Bay since March

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Marine experts say a dead whale was found partially submerged under a bridge in the estuary near Oakland’s Jack London Square.

The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito says it plans to tow the giant carcass to Angel Island State Park so that scientists can perform a necropsy to determine the cause of death.

It says it’s trying to determine if the animal found Friday it’s the same spotted Wednesday draped across the bow of a large ship entering the San Francisco Bay.

The center says it is the fourth whale found dead in the area since March and that scientists have not yet determined its species, length, age or sex.

Gray whales are making their annual northward migration from Mexico to Alaska.
