5 arrested in brutal assault on pregnant Los Angeles teacher

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police gang officers and detectives have arrested three men and two women suspected in a brutal assault on a pregnant school teacher.

The Police Department announced Wednesday that the district attorney’s hardcore gang prosecutors have filed charges including attempted murder, carjacking, robbery and hit-and-run.

The teacher was parking on a street outside her Sunland-area home March 20 when three men approached her vehicle.

One asked to borrow her cellphone, and when she refused, she was punched, stabbed and dragged out of the car.

One assailant fled in a waiting car while two others stole the teacher’s car but quickly crashed and then ran off.

The teacher was stabbed 11 times, suffered a punctured lung and lost two teeth. She’s recuperating, and police say her baby is fine.
