Big freeway wrecks snarl Southern California commute

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — Major freeway crashes snarled the Tuesday morning commute around Southern California.

One of the worst wrecks involved a big rig that overturned and burned on State Route 57 in Fullerton around 3:30 a.m., triggering lane closures that lasted for hours as the fire was put out and debris was removed.

Elsewhere in Orange County, City News Service reports a man was killed in a two-vehicle crash at 4:19 a.m. on State Route 91 in Buena Park, and a 5:40 a.m. crash on Interstate 5 in Buena Park involved three vehicles including a big rig.

In Los Angeles County, a big rig hauling thousands of pounds of scrap metal overturned before dawn on Interstate 5 in Burbank, causing massive backup.
