California festival killer’s motive still a mystery
GILROY, Calif. (AP) — Investigators say the 19-year-old who opened fire at a California food festival was a loner and his motive for the deadly attack remains a mystery.
The FBI says it’s looking through Santino Legan’s social media, emails and phone to find out what he was thinking before Sunday’s assault on the Gilroy Garlic Festival.
Authorities believe he acted alone and say they don’t suspect Legan targeted anyone because of their race or other specific characteristics.
Legan went to high school in Gilroy, southeast of San Francisco, but he recently moved to Nevada, where authorities say he bought the semi-automatic rifle used in the attack and a shotgun found in a car near the festival.
The attack killed two youngsters, ages 6 and 13, and a 25-year-old New York state man.
