California police say man in fatal crash was drunk driving

VISALIA, Calif. (AP) — California police have charged a man they believe was drunk driving during an accident that killed a woman.

The Fresno Bee reports 18-year-old Mark Anthony Verdugo was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, vehicular manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Authorities say Verdugo drove a Lamborghini Huracan through an intersection and collided with two other cars around 11:30 p.m. Saturday in Visalia.

Police say the female passenger of the second vehicle died and the 23-year-old driver suffered moderate injuries.

The deceased woman’s name was not immediately released.

The 32-year-old driver of the third vehicle suffered minor injuries in the accident 188 miles (303 kilometers) north of Los Angeles.

Police found a loaded .45 caliber pistol in the Lamborghini driven by Verdugo, who was also treated at a hospital.
