Clergy call for firing of 2 officers involved in shooting
Clergy and community leaders are calling for the immediate firing of two Connecticut police officers who opened fire on a car and seriously wounded a passenger when the driver got out and appeared on police video to have his hands up.
The leaders held a news conference Wednesday after reviewing newly released police and surveillance video of last week’s shooting in New Haven. They say they believe the videos show the officers’ shooting was not justified.
The bullets missed the driver. Twenty-two-year-old Stephanie Washington was shot but survived.
Authorities said a Hamden officer and Yale University officer opened fire when the driver got out of the car abruptly.
Hamden and Yale officials say the officers will remain on paid leave pending investigations.
