Convicted killer guilty of 3 more Los Angeles murders
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man serving a life sentence for a 2007 murder has pleaded guilty to three earlier murders in Los Angeles County.
Prosecutors say 46-year-old Gilton Pitre entered pleas Tuesday to three counts of first-degree murder and admitted special-circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder with a prior conviction.
He’ll be sentenced Aug. 29 and faces a life term without possibility of parole.
Prosecutors say Pitre murdered Maribel Medina in early 2004 and Irma Barboza later that year. Barboza was about eight months pregnant at the time. Both women were transients whose bodies were dumped in downtown Los Angeles.
Pitre was previously convicted of murdering 15-year-old runaway Alyssa Gomez at a Sunset Boulevard motel in 2007. During sentencing in 2010, Judge Kathleen Kennedy said Pitre had an “innate hatred of women.”
