Couple found dead near aqueduct in California desert

PALMDALE, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials say they’re investigating the deaths of a couple found near the California Aqueduct in Palmdale as a murder-suicide.

Deputy Trina Schrader says the bodies of 30-year-old Jovan Webb and 27-year-old Haley Mercier were discovered with gunshot wounds on Thursday. The pair had been reported missing a day earlier after a family member came upon Webb’s abandoned car.

Schrader says Webb had been reportedly suffering from depression.

The bodies were found after a search involving a helicopter crew. A gun was recovered at the scene.
