Crews search for teenage boy swept away by Tule River
SPRINGVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in central California have renewed their searching for a 16-year-old boy who went missing Sunday in Tulare County’s Tule River.
Tulare County Sheriff spokeswoman Ashley Ritchie said a dive team and search and rescue personnel are searching Monday for the boy with the help form a drone.
Officials say the boy was in the river Sunday when he suddenly went under and didn’t come back up. Crews combed the area about miles from Springville near a day use spot known as “The Stairs” but called off their search until Monday.
Ritchie says that because of rough water conditions, officials are treating the search as a body recovery effort.
Authorities have warned of dangers at California rivers resulting from the state’s exceptionally wet winter.
