Dashboard video shows Sacramento sheriff’s car hit protester

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Video from the dashboard camera inside a sheriff’s vehicle that struck a woman during a weekend protest shows the vehicle hitting the woman and driving away.

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones says the driver likely didn’t know he hit someone during the Saturday protest over a recent police shooting of an unarmed black man. He says he hasn’t spoken to the driver. California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

It’s the latest flashpoint following the fatal police shooting of Stephon Clark by Sacramento police March 18. The protesters gathered outside the sheriff’s department because a sheriff’s helicopter was involved in the pursuit of Clark.

Jones blamed “paid protesters” for causing chaos at the protest.

Jones showed the video Monday at a news conference but isn’t releasing it publicly.
