Driver crashes against parked car, killing woman, dog

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in Northern California say a 21-year-old man suspected of driving while intoxicated crashed his car against a parked SUV, killing a homeless woman and her dog sleeping inside.

The Press Democrat reports police arrested Angel Martinez of Santa Rosa on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with a DUI and two additional felony counts after he crashed his car into the SUV in a residential Santa Rosa neighborhood.

Police officers say the woman, who was in her 50s, died with her pit bull in the impact. Her name has not been released.

Santa Rosa Sgt. Summer Gloeckner says Martinez was speeding in his Dodge Challenger at 80 mph to 90 mph on a road in which the speed limit is 35 mph when he crashed against the woman’s vehicle.
