Elevator company asks judge to reconsider $2M jury verdict
STATELINE, Nev. (AP) — An elevator company is requesting for a judge to reconsider a jury’s $2 million award to a California man who had claimed in a lawsuit he was injured by a sudden drop in a Lake Tahoe casino elevator.
The Tahoe Daily Tribune reports Schindler Elevator Company filed the request last month asking the judge to rule on the case outside of the jury’s decision or allow for a new trial.
According to the lawsuit filed in federal court, John Deatherage was on an elevator at Harveys Lake Tahoe in July 2014, when the elevator “rapidly dropped before violently coming to a stop.” Deatherage claimed it caused a back injury.
The company claimed Deatherage did not fall down when the elevator stopped, “nor was there any physical damage to the elevator.”
