Ex-Yale coach expected to plead guilty in bribery scheme

BOSTON (AP) — The former women’s soccer coach at Yale University is expected to plead guilty to taking bribes in exchange for pretending applicants were athletic recruits.

Rudy Meredith is scheduled to plead guilty in Boston federal court on Thursday to charges including honest services wire fraud.

Meredith is among nine coaches at elite universities charged in what authorities have called the biggest college admissions scheme ever prosecuted .

Meredith has been cooperating with investigators since April when officials say they caught him soliciting a bribe from a father.

Authorities say Meredith also accepted a $400,000 bribe to designate another applicant as a soccer recruit, even though he knew she didn’t play the sport.

Meredith and his attorneys haven’t returned messages.

Several other coaches charged in the scheme have pleaded not guilty.
