False report of baby over cliff triggers LA-area search

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities searched a canyon area northeast of Los Angeles after a woman falsely claimed she had thrown her baby over a cliff.

The child’s father called Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies around 1 a.m. Tuesday and reported that he and the baby’s mother had argued and the woman claimed to have tossed the baby off the cliff.

County firefighters and members of two search and rescue teams were dispatched while the parents were questioned.

Deputy Tracy Koerner tells City News Service the mother admitted to deputies she did not toss the baby over the cliff and the child was at a relative’s home.
