Family of teen shot by deputies sues Los Angeles County
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The family of a black teenager fatally shot by deputies during a chase has sued Los Angeles County and 10 Sheriff’s Department employees.
Sixteen-year-old Anthony Weber was killed February 4 at a South Los Angeles apartment complex. Deputies said they believed the teen was armed but investigators didn’t find a weapon.
City News Service reports Wednesday that Weber’s parents and daughter have filed a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging negligence and wrongful death. The family is seeking $10 million in damages. The defendants, who aren’t named, include four deputies who were at the scene of the shooting.
The Sheriff’s Department says it can’t comment while the investigation is ongoing, which may take months. However, a department statement adds: “the day will come when the evidence will speak for us.”
