Federal official to spend month in NYC public housing
NEW YORK (AP) — The top federal housing official in New York is getting an up-close look at the city’s troubled public housing developments.
Regional Housing and Urban Development Administrator Lynne Patton is spending the next four weeks living in four different New York City public housing buildings.
Patton moved into the Patterson Houses in the Bronx on Monday. Posts on her official Facebook page show Patton sharing pizza with her hosts and taking part in an aerobics class.
Patton says in a news release she will stay at the Patterson Houses until Friday. She’ll then spend Monday through Friday at three different Housing Authority properties during the following three weeks.
Patton’s move comes after HUD announced last month that it will appoint a monitor to oversee the New York City Housing Authority.
