Feds accuse ex-CIA employee of continuing leaks from prison

NEW YORK (AP) — Federal prosecutors have beefed up charges against a former CIA employee, saying he has leaked classified national defense materials while incarcerated.

The new charges against Joshua Adam Schulte were contained in a rewritten indictment filed Wednesday.

Prosecutors say he is now charged with the unlawful transmission and attempted unlawful transmission of national defense secrets from prison.

A lawyer for Schulte did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Schulte has told a Manhattan federal judge that evidence against him is “nearly non-existent.”

He was charged in June with the theft of classified materials that were released by WikiLeaks in March 2017.

Authorities say Schulte stole the information in 2016 in the Eastern District of Virginia.

Schulte has pleaded not guilty to the charges, along with child pornography charges.
