Fire damages homes on Southern California beachfront

HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A raging overnight fire in a residential construction site damaged four other homes on a Southern California beachfront.

The blaze erupted shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday in Hermosa Beach among tightly packed multi-story residences.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze after about an hour.

KABC-TV reports the cause of the fire remains under investigation but a person was detained at the scene.
