Gunman arrested near Malibu-area park where camper was shot

CALABASAS, Calif. (AP) — A gunman found in a rugged Malibu-area canyon area has been arrested for a series of burglaries and authorities will investigate whether he’s linked to the killing of a camper at a nearby park.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell says a vast search resulted Wednesday in the arrest of 42-year-old Anthony Rauda in a ravine. He was dressed in black and had a rifle.

Authorities say they suspect Rauda is responsible for perhaps eight burglaries in the past two years in which food was stolen.

McConnell says Rauda, who’s wanted for a parole violation, hasn’t been ruled out in connection with the June death of Tristan Beaudette. Beaudette was shot in the head as he slept with his two young daughters in a tent in Malibu Creek State Park.
