Hickenlooper: Vast majority of campaign’s problem ‘was me’

PERRY, Iowa (AP) — Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper says of his presidential campaign struggles that “the vast majority of the problem with the campaign was me.” But the Democrat promised Sunday to stay in the race and become a better candidate. His own staff has called for him to exit the presidential race and run for Senate instead.

He said after a town hall in Perry, Iowa: “the vast majority of the problem with the campaign was me not being as good of a messenger as I need to be.”

A number of top staffers on Hickenlooper’s presidential campaign recently left the team, after the governor struggled to raise money and gain traction in early polls of the race.
