High surf rolls ashore along California coast

VENTURA, Calif. (AP) — High surf is rolling ashore along the California coast and authorities are warning of potential flooding of low-lying areas during high tides.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department tweeted Wednesday that lifeguards closed Ocean Beach Pier as waves reached public areas of the.

West of Los Angeles, the city of Ventura has closed its pier as a safety precaution. That pier sustained damage during a recent storm.

The National Weather Service says the large west swell generating the surf will last until late Wednesday or Thursday morning, depending on location.
