Hiker lost overnight in California mountains is safe
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a 64-year-old man who separated from his son while on a hike Sunday in Southern California’s San Gabriel Mountains is safe.
KCAL-TV reported Monday that the man hiked out on his own at around 9 a.m. Monday and flagged down a car.
His wife told the news station that he was unhurt and thankful to be alive.
The station identified the hiker as Angus Paulson, although the Los Angeles County sheriff’s department did not release a name.
Authorities say the father and son separated while hiking and agreed to meet back at their vehicle. The father did not show and was reported missing around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Rescuers searched for hours Sunday night in chilly weather and then again on Monday morning.
