Homeless man killed in confrontation with CHP officer

OAKVIEW, Calif. (AP) — The California Highway Patrol says an officer has shot and killed a homeless man who attacked him.

It happened shortly after 6 a.m. Friday in Oak View, about 50 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

The 20-year-old died at the scene. His name wasn’t immediately released.

The CHP says an officer who received a report of a man walking in traffic was attacked by a suspect. The officer then fired a single shot that hit the man in the chest.

The officer was treated at a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Details of the confrontation weren’t immediately released.
