Knife-wielding man shot, wounded by LA County deputy

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says a deputy shot and wounded a man who approached him with a knife.

The department says detectives in the East Los Angeles station received a report Wednesday evening that a man, possibly under the influence, was waving a knife around.

As the information was being relayed to the field, someone flagged down a deputy driving by the location and pointed out the man.

The department says the deputy was getting out of his vehicle when the man approached with the knife and the deputy fired.

The man was hit at least once in the torso. Authorities say he was taken to a hospital but there’s no information on his condition.

A large kitchen knife was recovered at the scene.
