LA County art museum gets 10 new pieces after weekend gala

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles County Museum of Art will get ten new pieces for its permanent collection after a weekend gala raised more than $3 million.

The museum along Wilshire Boulevard west of downtown LA says six of the ten new pieces were created by women.

Among them are “I’ll Bend But I Will Not Break,” a mixed media work by 91-year-old Los Angeles artist Betye Saar. Also acquired was an untitled hanging work by the late San Francisco sculptor Ruth Asawa.

The annual Collectors Committee event spanned two days and included presentations from museum curators and private dinners at the homes of major LACMA supporters. A gala on Saturday night was hosted by radio and TV star Ryan Seacrest.
