LA County supervisors take new action in clash with sheriff

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has voted to direct county lawyers to evaluate the legality of a panel created by Sheriff Alex Villanueva that approved reinstatement of a deputy fired during the administration of his predecessor.

The board’s unanimous vote Tuesday also directed the lawyers to instruct the recently elected county sheriff to stop re-evaluating discipline imposed by former Sheriff Jim McDonnell until a review of the so-called truth and reconciliation panel is completed.

The Los Angeles Times reports the board action is the latest rebuke of Villanueva, who has attacked reforms instituted by the former sheriff and moved to reinstate fired deputies.
